Making the most of the great outdoors in our own backyard.

Most of us were pretty good at this when we were kids. We could conjure up lions and tigers and bears in deep dark shrubbery jungles. Spot magical fairies outside regal cardboard castles. Survive perilous wild-west adventures. Even ride The Pie in the Grand National. Didn’t matter that the yard was small enough to spit across.

Then there are our real-life memories of family barbecues, summer birthday parties and starlit campouts complete with wild animals courtesy of our older brothers.

Well, with just a little adult imagination, you can create an outdoor living space that can rekindle some of that magic and add an enjoyable new dimension to your lifestyle no matter how old you are.

Decks, porches and docks–expanding on old ideas with new materials.

In recent years, a lot of attention has been paid to improving our indoor home environments. Bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, even our closets have benefited from new ways of thinking. Better materials and a greater variety of fixtures, appliances and furnishings have transformed these once ordinary utilitarian rooms into extraordinary living spaces.

So, what about decks, porches and docks?

Those of you who love the outdoors as much as indoors will be excited to know the same thing is happening to outdoor living spaces. Growing interest is leading to the development and availability of better materials and accessories, which has fueled the imaginations of home architects, garden designers, outdoor contractors and homeowners like you. Many older ideas originating from a variety of cultures like outdoor kitchens, open fireplaces, sleeping porches, etc., have resurfaced and are being reinvented into living spaces that will lure you outside even on cold winter nights.

Exciting stuff. Especially when these new ideas meet up with new building materials that last longer and require less maintenance. But, there’s a lot to learn about. And the biggest question most people have is how do we get started?

How to create your perfect outdoor
living space.

There are basically three steps to creating your ideal deck, porch or dock. The first step is coming up with an idea that compliments your lifestyle and your home’s landscape. Second step is figuring out which materials will work best for the outdoor environment you want to build. And third is either locating the materials if you’re building it yourself or finding a dependable contractor who can build it for you.

Our goal in creating this website was to help you with all three steps. Give you some ideas. Educate you about some of the new materials that are available. And direct you to retailers who carry the materials and certified contractors who know how to work with them and have the skills required to build your dream outdoor living space.
